Want to Hear from our Featured Artist to Watch: @almgtyaeoart
The Person Behind the Work:
How long have you been drawing: I been drawing all my life, started off being a graphic designer, but then I hated not being really able to express myself, and with bills piling up I had to think how can I still express myself and make a good product. I tried screen-printing but a friend I was supposed to do it with bailed on me after I bought the paint. I didn't want the fabric paint to go to waste so I used it to paint my first series. And people loved it, still gotta have a job haha but at least now I can draw stuff I like and people like! I made the transition to digital painting cause it allowed me to stretch myself even further.
Whats your favorite medium: Oh man, I love all mediums, I'm really a fan of just the application of various mediums really. I'll touch more on that in what inspires me.
What is it about creating your art that you love: I love that I can draw whatever I want however I want and there is always gonna be some someone who can rock with it. I absolutely melt when someone wants to have one of my works in their home, as a album cover, whatever! I love the colors in my art and how I use them to evoke emotion out of my viewer. I love that I'm being pushed in ways that my time as a graphic designer never did for me. I treat my art like albums and singles, in each one I drop online I try to send a message to the viewer or I might be on a flow of just creating something that is visually appealing.
Where are you based: Aeo is worldwide baby, my main spot is the lovely city of Chicago but I go where I get love.
What inspires you: Oh man, I'm gonna go down a list of brothers and sistas that give me goosebumps and make me think about how I want to impact someone else. My godfather Shepard Fairey, thats a bad dude right there. I always hit him up obviously he don't answer but I ain't even mad, just keep droppin that fire haha. Momz aka Hueman, when I saw how she does graffiti art I was amazed, she literally embodies where I want to be someday. My guy Davey K, he does alot of monster paintings I think its water paint, but yeah the way he does it inspires me to make the people I draw have character and emotion that you can see. Duchess365, oh man that sista right there, oo I remember when I used to draw comics I used to think "oh if you use digital you don't know how to draw forreal". DEAD WRONG. She is amazing and deserves all the success in the world. As well as other digital artist Gods like Aaron Griff, and Ilya Kuvshinov. I could go on forever but there's one more name that comes to mind... HEBRU BRANTLEY I love everything that man is doing, and the fact that he doesn't erase!? For what he creates that's just amazing to me, that's a bad brotha right there, google him.
Anything else you like to add: Yes, yes and more yes. I want to give whoever reads this advice. Art school? forget about that, get out there and use whatever way you draw to express what you want. I believe you can't teach someone to draw, you can teach someone to bite someone elses style but you can't teach it. Even if you draw stick figures my g.. draw those stick figures to do something and express something thats close to you. Don't let anyone tell you that you can't draw the way you want and succeed. God bless the dead but bruh, have you seen whats in art museums?? Get out there and make your mark, I promise someone would rock with you.
